September 26, 2024: Rutgers School of Communication and Information professor, Britt S. Paris, gave a talk at the 2024-25 ARBMMP Opening Event on how worker-based interventions in AI can help focus discussions on more critical negotiation and refusal of technologies that overwhelmingly target women, minoritized people, and those questioning existing power structures.
Britt S. Paris, Assistant Professor of Library and Information Science at the Rutgers School of Communication and Information, is a critical informatics scholar studying the political economy of information infrastructure, as it relates to evidentiary standards and political action. She has published work on Internet infrastructure projects, artificial intelligence-generated information objects, digital labor, and civic data, analyzed through the lenses of political economy, cultural studies, and feminist social epistemology.
The Alison R. Bernstein Media Mentoring Program is an annual program which links recent Rutgers alums with accomplished professionals in media. The program, a collaboration between the Institute for Women's Leadership and the School of Communication and Information, is designed to address barriers to advancement in these fields and to provide individuals who are in the early stages of their careers one-on-one mentoring, exclusive networking opportunities, and invaluable industry insights.
