In this video, I’m sharing the process of painting ‘Tempo’ — a 70 x 100 cm (27.6 x 39.4 in) mixed media portrait created with oil paint, acrylics, and oil pastels on canvas.
You’ll see how I approach painting a realistic face, starting from the eye area and working wet-on-wet. I also talk through some recent changes to my oil painting process, including working with odorless mineral spirits and incorporating mixed media elements like acrylics and oil pastels.

Oil paint:
I generally prefer Gamblin Oil Colors, Nevskaya Palitra Master Class and Winsor & Newton Artists Oil Colour.
I have listed color names in order as seen on my palette:
Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Deep, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Transparent Brown Oxide (can be Burnt Umber instead), Permanent Mauve (or Cobalt Violet), Ultramarine Blue, Prussian green.

• Materials used: oil paints, canvas, medium (linseed oil), brushes, glass palette, palette knife, paper towels (or tissues that I use to wipe the brushes).
