The Last Samurai visits Yamato Museum in Kure city, Hiroshima prefecture and introduces the history of Battleship Yamato, Japanese imperial navy battleship during the World War 2. Kure city has been known as the naval base and it still has the base of Maritime Self Defense Forces. Yamato was the largest battleship in the world and it was the symbol of the Empire. But it was sunk in 1945 when Yamato headed for Okinawa as the last battle against the US.
After the museum, he introduces the boat which cruises Kure port to show us the warships of Self Defense Forces. You can also see the submarine base so closely.
