Nestled in the serene hills of Himachal Pradesh, McLeodganj is a vibrant town located just 10 kilometers from Dharamshala and about 550 kilometers from Delhi. Often called "Little Lhasa," McLeodganj is famous not only for its spiritual aura and snow-capped peaks but also for its rich Tibetan culture and street food.

McLeodganj was established during the British colonial era as a resting town and gained global significance in 1960 when His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama settled here after fleeing Tibet. Since then, the town has become the spiritual headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile, drawing visitors from across the world.

Apart from its monasteries, lush green valleys, and majestic views of the Dhauladhar mountains, McLeodganj offers a mouthwatering street food culture that blends Tibetan, Indian, and international flavors. The narrow lanes are dotted with food stalls and small eateries, each offering a unique gastronomic experience.

The most iconic street food here is momos—Tibetan-style steamed or fried dumplings filled with vegetables, chicken, or mutton. You’ll find them served piping hot with spicy red chutney on every street corner. Another local favorite is thukpa, a comforting noodle soup ideal for the chilly weather.

For non-vegetarian lovers, the town has small roadside dhabas and stalls serving spicy fried and gravy dishes of chicken, fish, and mutton. These are affordable, filling, and packed with bold Himalayan flavors.

McLeodganj's food scene is also incredibly global. From Israeli shakshuka to German pastries, Korean ramen to Italian pasta—you’ll find a variety of international cuisines here. Two of the most recommended food joints are Tibet Kitchen, known for authentic Tibetan meals, and the Old German Bakery near Bhagsu Temple, perfect for a sweet break after a hike.

Whether you’re a foodie, a backpacker, or a spiritual seeker, McLeodganj’s street food is a must-experience journey of its own—warm, soulful, and diverse, just like the town itself.
