This video is the next part in my series of informational videos about how I was a US-trained, board-certified family medicine physician moved abroad to the Republic of Ireland to work as a General Practitioner (GP).
In this video, I talk about the steps I took to make my wait productive while in the US pending the many (slow) moving pieces involved (Epic source verification, medical council registration, job hunting, permit processing). I took these steps to make the process quicker and easier down the road, and made some mistakes along the way. I hope this information proves useful.
Here are the steps (not all inclusive):
1) Update your necessary trainings (ie, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, etc). I only updated my ACLS certification
2) Obtain your police clearance forms (preferably notarized)
3) Contact and prepare your clinical references
4) Obtain your service letters from all your employers from the last 3 years (name, position, date of commencement/termination, standing with company)
5) Gather proof of indemnity from the last 3 years (both coverage and claims)
6) Assemble all your sensitive documents and get notarized copies of the most important ones (marriage certificates, degrees, degree transcripts, licenses, etc.)
7) Prepare your pet(s) for immigration (2 successive rabies vaccines one year apart, microchip, USDA certified vet)
8) Get ready to fly (downsizing, selling our car, arranging shipping companies)
9) Move your financial assets (consolidate bank accounts asap, add spouse/family as a trusted contact, cash is king!)
10) Get ready to land (arrange accommodation for 1st month like AirBnB, peruse housing/propery sites, get a international drivers permit issued near the date you emigrate)
I do not have children, so do not know exactly what you need to relocate your children. I recommend going to any of the resources I mentioned to look more into this.
