When you're faced against an aggressive person and the situation cannot be defused, a common reflex for many people is to use a punch to strike your opponent.

It's kind of rare to see someone launch a knee strike as a first hit. But there might be times when you won't be able to launch an upper body strike because your opponent won't let you. He might be holding both of your hands, he might be "in your face", who knows.

If you see that there might be an opening for a low strike, launch it quickly and put your entire body weight behind your shot. Make sure to commit to your strike and hit with power for maximum impact.

Also, make sure you don't telegraph your strike to have the element of surprise on your side.

As soon as you completed your knee strike, make sure to follow up with other self defense devastating strikes such as elbows strikes, palm strikes, low kicks, headbutt's, bicep pop's, hammer fist's or any other strike that you see fit to eliminate the threat.
