"Christmas Time (Is Here Again)", credited to all four Beatles, was written and performed on the quick for the band's annual fan club Christmas record in 1967. The song follows a basic blues progression with simple, oft-repeated lyrics, and required only a single take to record its backing track. Its initial release featured comedy skits by the band interspersed throughout the song, while its release as a B-side to the "Free as a Bird" single received further edits; embellishments included holiday greetings from the band recorded in 1966, as well as a faux-Scottish nonsense poem by John set against a Mellotron rendition of "Auld Lang Syne".
