The Forbidden City in Beijing was the imperial palace of 24 emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties, located in the center of Beijing. It is one of the representatives of ancient Chinese palace architecture. ‌
The Forbidden City, formerly known as the Forbidden City and officially known as the Beijing Palace Museum, was first built in the fourth year of the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1406), based on the design and construction of the Nanjing Palace Museum. It was basically completed in the 18th year of the Yongle reign (1420). This palace is 961 meters long from north to south and 753 meters wide from east to west, covering an area of approximately 720000 square meters and a building area of approximately 150000 square meters. It is centered around three main halls and has over seventy palaces of various sizes, with a total of 9999.5 rooms according to legend. In actual measurements, there were 8707 rooms. The Forbidden City is surrounded by a 10 meter high city wall and a 52 meter wide moat, with each corner of the wall featuring a graceful Feng Shui pavilion. The Forbidden City has four gates: the Meridian Gate, the Shenwu Gate, the Donghua Gate, and the Xihua Gate.
The layout of the Forbidden City is divided into two parts: the outer court and the inner court. The Outer Court is centered around the three major halls of Taihe Hall, Zhonghe Hall, and Baohe Hall, and is the place where the country holds major ceremonies. The Inner Court is composed of the Qianqing Palace, Jiaotai Palace, Kunning Palace, the Six Eastern and Western Palaces, and the Imperial Garden. It is a place where the emperor and his concubines reside, hold ceremonies and religious activities, and handle daily affairs.
After Puyi abdicated in 1912, the history of the Forbidden City as a palace came to an end. On October 10, 1925, the Palace Museum was officially established, becoming a large-scale comprehensive museum that integrates ancient architecture, palace collections, and cultural and artistic works from various dynasties. It is also one of the largest ancient cultural and artistic museums in China. The Palace Museum not only preserves a large number of ancient buildings and artworks, but also showcases China's long history and culture.
Nowadays, as a world cultural heritage site, the Forbidden City attracts tourists from all over the world to visit every year, becoming an important window for understanding traditional Chinese culture and history.

‌北京紫禁城是明清两代24位皇帝的皇宫，位于北京市中心，是中国古代宫殿建筑的代表之一。‌
紫禁城，旧称紫禁城，正式名称为北京故宫，始建于明永乐四年（1406年），以南京故宫为蓝本设计建造，至永乐十八年（1420年）基本竣工。这座宫殿南北长961米，东西宽753米，占地面积约72万平方米，建筑面积约15万平方米。它以三大殿为中心，有大小宫殿七十多座，相传一共有9999.5间，实际测量有房间8707间。紫禁城四周有高10米的城墙和宽52米的护城河环绕，城墙的四角各有一座风姿绰约的风水楼阁。紫禁城有南、北、东、西四座城门，分别是午门、神武门、东华门和西华门。
紫禁城内部布局分为外朝和内廷两部分。外朝以太和殿、中和殿、保和殿三大殿为中心，是国家举行大典礼的地方。内廷由乾清宫、交泰殿、坤宁宫及东西六宫和御花园等组成，是皇帝和后妃们居住、举行祭祀和宗教活动以及处理日常政务的地方。
1912年溥仪退位后，紫禁城作为皇宫的历史终结，1925年10月10日，故宫博物院正式成立，成为集古代建筑群、宫廷收藏、历代文化艺术为一体的大型综合性博物馆，也是中国最大的古代文化艺术博物馆之一。故宫博物院不仅保存了大量的古建筑和艺术品，还展示了中国悠久的历史和文化。
如今，紫禁城作为世界文化遗产，每年吸引着来自世界各地的游客前来参观，成为了解中国传统文化和历史的重要窗口‌。
