Removing a broken Moen 1222 Posi-Temp tub/shower valve

The 1222 Moen shower valve is plastic and will break off right behind the stem. It is then very difficult to get the rest of the cartridge out of the valve body without damaging the valve body. I found that a 13/32" drillbit would go through the plastic, washers and gaskets, and finally get caught in the metal cup in the back end of the original valve. Once I got the drill bit to hang up I was able to slowly work the drillbit out of the valve body. Then flushed the valve body by turning water back on slightly and the off. Then used lubricant Pack that came with the new valve and additional faucet grease to thoroughly lubricate the replacement valve before I reinstalled it. Hope this helps. Took me about an hour to get to this size drill bit as it was too deep for any of my Easi Outs to get a good bite on anything. So maybe I'll save u an hour. Good luck!!
