Welcome to the haunted mansion here's a rain making practical prop idea for Halloween decorating, movie making, or stage rain effect. Here is a way to make a storming rainy window effect similar to the atmosphere you find in Disneyland's Haunted Mansion ride once you step off the stretching elevator but with real water to make it more realistic when up close. We wanted to create the effect using a water feature so you literally see real dripping water down instead of just projecting it. Welcome foolish mortals we are your ghost hosts in this chilling challenge of building a rain pipe window prop for Halloween Parties, haunted houses, walkthroughs and theater productions. You can use this effect in a hallway inside your haunt or walk through maze or right outside one of your windows of your house. The thunderstorm rain window or doorway scene include lightning bolts, real water for rain, smoke from a fog machine, and the sound of a monsoon during the night. This classic rain curtain effect is pretty easy to do and can be fairly inexpensive to achieve. The payoff is a delightfully frightful outcome that will be sure to frighten your guests prematurely. We framed up a squared off area outside the window of our house with 1" x 3" pine boards. We made a water catch troth and plumbed a rain pipe made of PVC for the water after drilling holes every 3" or so. After installing the plumbing we wrapped frayed fiberglass screen wire for windows around the pipe with 3/32" holes. We used a pond pump we used for our foam carved haunted Halloween water fountain prop. We placed the pump down inside a 5 gallon bucket which recycles the rain water. We use several cool white LED bulbs and black light party bulbs with the clamp light sockets. We painted a lightning bolt on a section of cardboard with a glow in the dark paint called wildfire. The lightning was made with a firefly lightning machine but you could use any lightning machine triggered by sound to make this effect work. We used a fog machine to help simulate a foggy scary night. We dressed the inside of the window with a see through lace curtain panel and red curtains close to the ones in the haunted mansion. They even had gold rope tiebacks. We had a lot of fun making this spooky atmospheric prop and hope you enjoy this prop making tutorial video.
