This lecture covers the basics of defects in solids. It starts with the introduction of defects. The chart of classification of defects is presented. The point defects and its various types are discussed in detail. Basically, defects are classified into three types ; Point, Line and Plane. Point defects are further divided into three catagories; stoichiometric, non-stoichiometric and impurity defects. Each of three are divided into two types - Stoichiometric defects are Schottky and Frenkel. Non-stoichiometric defects are metal excess and metal deficiency defects and impurity defects are substitutional and self intertitial. If you find this lecture useful.
