WILL YOU HELP US FIND THE COMPOSER OF THIS WARAY SONG?
Backstory: Nothing is sweeter to the ears than a song sung in one’s native dialect/language. As a Waray-speaking Filipino, it’s very rare to come across with a sacred Waray song, so I got so much excited when this video appeared in my facebook timeline. What made this song even more interesting was the fact that it was sung by two Korean ladies (in the video that I saw) who went to the Philippines to help the Warays living in Leyte recover from the devastation caused by typhoon Yolanda (2013) and who had the privilege of learning this song during their mission work in the area. It’s indeed a simple song but with a great story and a profound, universal message.

In our version of the song, I asked Kent to help with the music, and requested my long-time Korean friends Seunghwan and Hyungseok to provide the Korean lyrics (because this song was sung by Korean ladies, I thought it would be nice if this were translated to Korean too). This could be wishful thinking but I really hope to meet the original composer of this Waray song. I also hope that you will inspired upon watching this video and listening to the music, and be reminded that our only hope to survive whatever difficulties we have in life (such as this seemingly endless pandemic), is to rely on Jesus Christ, and to trust him, ALWAYS. Ikaw gud la, Hesus!
