Two officers of the Namibian Police's VIP Protection Unit who died in a car accident in Windhoek were buried at their home villages in the Ohangwena region today.
Late Warrant Officers Lukas Nangolo and George Shiluwa, who were attached to the security detail of Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa, died in a crash on Windhoek's Western Bypass last Friday.
Scores of mourners, including Minister James Sankwasa, who represented President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, attended the funeral services held in Oshaango and Omakelo villages.
The minister read a message of condolence from President Nandi-Ndaitwah, in which she hailed the two officers as exceptional, disciplined and courageous in their service to the minister and to Namibia.
"Over the months they were assigned to you, they became more than colleagues; they formed a dependable part of your daily life and, in many ways, an extension of your commitment to serving Namibia. Their absence is therefore felt in a profound manner. Their dedication to the VIP protection unit was marked by professionalism, humility and unwavering duty. Namibia honours them for the sacrifice they made and for the steadfast way in which they carried out their duties. During this difficult time, I extend my most sincere and deepest condolences to you, honourable minister, the bereaved family, colleagues and friends who mourn them."
The late Warrant Officers Nangolo and Shiluwa were buried at the Oshaango and Omakelo cemeteries in the Ohangwena region, respectively.
