Jeanette Scovotti was born in New York in 1936 and had an international operatic career, which started her with debut in 1960 at New York City Opera (as Monica in "The Medium"). She sang 86 performances at The Met in the 1960s, and was frequently heard at other leading opera houses in the U.S. and in Europe. She appeared in several commercial recordings in the 1970s and 1980s.
For the 2020 holiday season, I've gathered a variety of mostly coloratura sopranos (and a few interesting lyric sopranos) singing holiday carols and related sacred music and am posting them all at once in a holiday season playlist. These are taken from rare old sources in my collection, so a few of these ladies are well known, but many are regional singers from the 1960s and 70s who will be new names to most people.
*If you feel have a copyright claim on this performance, please say so in the comment section below and I can remove it from YouTube. I share these here to build awareness and celebrate these noteworthy artists of another era with no commercial intent.
