Do I actually know how to program? Some recent coding adventures have cast increasing doubts. I'll talk about some of these difficulties along with some big ideas that have changed everything I thought I knew about programming and problem solving. Can an old programmer learn new tricks? Maybe.
About the speaker:
David Beazley: David Beazley is an independent computer scientist living in Evanston, Illinois. He teaches advanced programming courses, but is probably best known for his contributions to the Python community with books such as the Python Cookbook, 3rd Ed. (O'Reilly) and Python Distilled (Addison-Wesley). In the early days of Python, he created the Swig tool for building C/C++ extensions and was the first person to port Python to a massively parallel supercomputer. He was also formerly an assistant professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. Lately, he's been teaching himself how to program.
