Two years ago, we bought a rundown akiya house in rural Japan — a former sake brewery, over 150 years old, tucked away in the countryside of Shimane Prefecture. We took a risk, followed our dream and became owners of an historic kominka in a beautiful mountain village. It's been an experience full of success and challenges and now we ask - Has it been worth it? Have we achieved our goals? Can we keep going?
