This was a totally unexpected trip! Pannavadi Parisal Thurai, also known as Stanley Reservoir, is a beautiful spot created by the Mettur Dam in Salem district, Tamil Nadu. It's about 12 km from Mettur town, near Kolathur village on the Salem-Dharmapuri border.
A government ferry connects Pannavadi village to Nagamarai village. A large round boat (shaped like a coracle, but made of fiber) is tied to the ferry, carrying people, bikes, and even animals across the water for about 5 km.
One special thing here is the old Jalagandeshwara temple and Nandi statue that appear when the water level goes below 70 feet. These are around 300 years old! You can also see the twin church towers from 1902 – a very rare and amazing sight.
The best time to visit is from November to March, early in the morning. There are food stalls near the shore, and the fresh carp fish here is really tasty.
This route is perfect for bikers. After enjoying the green hills, you can take your bike on a fiber coracle boat and head toward Hogenakkal Falls, which is just 40 km away.

ഹായ് കൂട്ടുക്കാരെ, തീർത്തും അപ്രദീക്ഷിതമായി കിട്ടിയ ഒരു റൂട്ട് ആയിരുന്നു. തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെ സേലം ജില്ലയിലെ മേട്ടൂർ അണക്കെട്ടിനാൽ രൂപീകൃതമായ സ്റ്റാൻലി റിസർവോയർ എന്ന ഔദ്യോഗിക നാമത്തിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന മനോഹരമായ ഒരു സ്ഥലമാണ് പന്നവാടി പാരീസൽ തുറൈ. മേട്ടൂർ പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 12 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ കൊളത്തൂർ ഗ്രാമത്തിനടുത്താണ്, സേലം-ധർമ്മപുരി അതിർത്തിയിലാണ് ഈ പ്രദേശം, അവിടെ സർക്കാർ നടത്തുന്ന ഒരു ഫെറി സർവീസാണ് പന്നവാടി ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ നിന്ന് നാഗമരൈ ഗ്രാമവുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. വലിയൊരു കുട്ട വഞ്ചി ബോട്ടിൽ കെട്ടി വലിച്ച് ആളുകളെയും ബൈക്കുകളെയും മൃഗങ്ങളെയും ഏകദേശം 5 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരം താണ്ടി നാഗമരൈ ഗ്രാമത്തിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ട് പോകുന്നത്. അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെ ജലനിരപ്പ് 70 അടിയിൽ താഴെയാകുമ്പോൾ വെള്ളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഉയർന്നുവരുന്ന പുരാതന ജലഗന്ധേശ്വര ക്ഷേത്രവും നന്തി പ്രതിമയും ഇവിടുത്തെ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക ആകർഷണമാണ്. 1902 ലെ ഇരട്ട പള്ളി ഗോപുരങ്ങൾക്കൊപ്പം 300 വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾ ഒരു അപൂർവ കാഴ്ചയാണ്. നവംബർ മുതൽ മാർച്ച് വരെയാണ് സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ ഏറ്റവും അനുയോജ്യമായ സമയം, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് അതിരാവിലെ. പന്നവാടി കരയിൽ സന്ദർശകരെ കാത്തു നിരവധി ഭക്ഷണ ശാലകളൊക്കെ കാണാം. ഇവിടുന്ന് പിടിക്കുന്ന രുചികരമായ കരിമീൻ തന്നെയാണ് പ്രധാന ഐറ്റം. റൈഡേഴ്സിന് മികച്ച ഒരു റൂട്ടാണിത്. പച്ചപ്പുള്ള മലനിരകൾ കണ്ട് കുട്ട വഞ്ചിയിൽ ബൈക്കും കയറ്റി നേരെ ഹൊഗനക്കൽ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം വെച്ച് പിടിക്കാ . 40km ആണ് ഇവിടുന്ന് ഹൊഗനക്കലിലേക്കുള്ള ദൂരം.
