My BMW E34's clutch slave cylinder died on me, and here is how I went about replacing it. More info in the description.
In my case, the slave cylinder gave signs of making its way out a few weeks ago. Every now and then, I had to top-up the fluid reservoir, as I felt the clutch's biting point get lower and lower. It was going too fast for it to be the clutch plate, so I instantly suspected the hydraulics, and ordered the lot from my usual parts dealer: master, hose, and slave. I only replaced the slave cylinder so far, but I already have the rest, should the other parts fail some day.
One morning, on my way to serve a customer, the clutch pedal went to the floor (again), but topping it up did not change a thing. So I postponed my appointment, and got down under the Beemer...
I had been parking it on those ramps since a few days, as I had a strong feeling that the hydraulics would completely fail soon. I was not disappointed, although I do prefer working outside during the summer. It was 3° Celsius out, that day...
Anyway, job done!
