Hiking Yosemite Point Trail via Yosemite Falls. Is this the BEST View in Yosemite?
National Park Service: Yosemite Point is a prominent viewpoint on the north rim of Yosemite Valley, California, offering a breathtaking, panoramic view of iconic park landmarks, including Half Dome, Glacier Point, Sentinel Dome, and the Lost Arrow Spire.
It sits at an elevation of approximately 6,936 feet (2,114 meters). The primary reason hikers extend their journey to Yosemite Point is for the "remarkably close view of Half Dome's face".
How to Access Yosemite Point
Yosemite Point is not a standalone destination you can drive to; it is reached via a strenuous hike.
Trail: The most common access is as an extension of the Upper Yosemite Falls Trail.
Distance: The hike to the top of Upper Yosemite Falls is 7.2 miles round trip. Continuing to Yosemite Point adds approximately 1.6 miles (2.6 km) round trip to the hike, for a total trip of about 8.8 miles (14.2 km).
Difficulty: This entire route is considered a strenuous, all-day hike, involving a significant elevation gain of roughly 3,300 feet (1,006 meters) from the valley floor.
Experience: After reaching the top of the falls, the trail continues past where Yosemite Creek flows just before plunging over the cliff edge. A short distance further on the trail toward North Dome leads to Yosemite Point, a granite area with open views of the valley and high country.
Hikers are advised to start early in the day, bring plenty of water (at least 4 quarts/liters), and be prepared for strenuous activity and exposed sections of the trail in the summer.
