Welcome to PART 1 of our introduction to Storyline 360 App by Articulate - an interactive mobile and online course / customisable programme builder. This is our essential guide for beginners looking to create dynamic, interactive learning materials.
This video delves deep into how Articulate Storyline 360 serves as a powerful yet intuitive tool for developing eLearning content, employee training modules, and customisable online courses, all with a user-friendly interface that closely resembles PowerPoint.
This first episode introduces you to Storyline and how to use the different modes in the application, how to get familiar with the settings menu and slides, the story and slide views, the triggers menu, different buttons, timelines, and more. We talk you through how to get a project ready for work, as well as how to set slide sizes - the essential first step to building courses.

Storyline 360 is the ideal software for instructional designers, educators, and organisations seeking to create high-quality eLearning materials. The beauty of this tool lies in its familiarity — much like PowerPoint, it operates with slides, simple design menus, and easily recognisable Windows-based settings. However, Storyline enhances standard course creation by adding advanced features that allow users to design engaging, interactive, and mobile-friendly content.
If you’ve used PowerPoint, you’re already halfway there with Storyline 360. Its interface mirrors much of what you know, with a few additional elements that make creating digital courses a breeze. You’ll find a familiar settings menu, design controls, and a slide-based structure that enables you to build content from the ground up. The difference is that Storyline lets you do far more: with drag-and-drop functionality, branching scenarios, and custom interactions, it’s built for flexibility and engagement.
One of the key aspects we cover in this video is Story View. This mode provides an overview of the multiple scenes and pathways within your project. Think of it as the "big picture" view, where you can organise, link, and manage the flow of your content. Slide View, on the other hand, allows you to dive into individual slides and create the visual and interactive elements that will engage your learners. We also discuss the Timeline — your workspace for synchronising media, animations, and interactions, making sure everything flows smoothly for the user.
In addition to these, we explore the Triggers Menu, where you can create interactivity in your course. Triggers are what make Storyline truly stand out from traditional presentation tools, as they allow users to create dynamic actions based on learner input — whether it’s a simple button click or more complex scenarios.
Our video walks you through how to get your project up and running efficiently. The first step to creating a great course is setting up your workspace. We show you how to configure screen size, ensuring that your course is consistent and optimised for various devices, whether your audience is accessing the content on a desktop, tablet, or smartphone. This setup is crucial for maintaining a professional look and feel across your course.
We also discuss the importance of saving your project early on. In Storyline 360, once you’ve completed your initial setup, it’s a good idea to Save As to create a working version of your file. This allows you to experiment with different features while ensuring that your original setup remains intact.
Storyline 360 is designed to be intuitive, but to help you feel confident as you start using it, we provide an overview of the essential buttons, menus, and tabs you’ll be working with. For instance, the Storyline Player is a feature you’ll use to configure how your course is presented to learners. With customisable tabs, you can decide what learners can see and interact with throughout the course, tailoring the experience to suit the content and objectives.
Before you dive into creating your own eLearning course, it's important to be familiar with the various menus, tabs, and controls Storyline 360 offers. This video will serve as a foundation for future tutorials, making sure that you're well-prepared to utilise advanced features and customise your course to meet your specific needs.
Our tutorial provides a thorough introduction to help you get comfortable with Storyline 360’s interface, ensuring that your projects are set up for success from the very beginning. We recommend setting up your player and slide size configurations right from the start, so that your course is ready for further customisation.
In the next video, we will go into more detailed aspects of interactive elements, triggers, and branching scenarios to take your eLearning projects to the next level.
