2022 WeatherTech Intl Challenge Group 4 Saturday Qualifying Race

The WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman Saturday Qualifying race for Group 4 Classic Monoposto formula cars at Road America on Saturday July 16th, 2022.

The view in this video is from two cars: my 1977 Lola T440 and Chris Arrogante's 1979 Crossle 35F. I started 3rd in Club Ford and Chris was 6th, but he got a great start and slotted into second. By Turn 3 though I had moved up to 2nd chasing Roland Johnson in his 1976 Crossle 32F with Chris close behind. On lap 2 Jesse Jurgenson got in on the fun and passed both Chris and I, and it looked like we were going to have a real shootout.

But coming out of Canada Corner Jesse's motor let go and then in turn 14 my car seemed to lose all power and Chris sailed by. The power came back on so I figured "GO GO GO" and chased Chris down the main straight. As we dove for turn 3 however it was clear something was wrong and it turned out I was out of fuel (first time that's ever happened!).

I was out of the race but Chris was now in full pursuit of Roland. There were several lead changes over the remaining laps that culminated in a margin of victory of 0.038 seconds; Watch the video to see who won!
