Over the last three years Chris Dykes, our chairman, walked the entire length of the Kruger National Park, completing the sixth and final stage of the incredible 650 km long Kruger Trail. He has also walked additional trails in the Kruger and has done multiple anti-snare walks.
Next week he will be sharing the highlights of his experience with us - close encounters with big game, swimming in rivers and waterholes; wild camping under the stars, stunning scenery and friendships.... "This was the greatest adventure of my life!” he says.
The trail is unmarked and unsupported, with participants carrying everything they need on their backs including 4-5 litres of water. Two guides lead and protect the group, which walks between 15 and 24 kms a day using animal tracks, where possible.
Chris is deeply involved as a volunteer to tackle animal snaring in the Park - an activity which has sadly worsened over the past few years with rising unemployment, poverty, and population growth on its borders.
Last year alone over 3,000 snares were removed through the collaboration between this volunteer team and Park representatives.
