Excited whale watchers on a recent tour with Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari had the adventure of a lifetime when a mega pod of at least one thousand Common Dolphins stampeded off the coast of Orange County, California. Dolphin stampedes do not occur very often and this unusual behavior happens without warning or anything frightening them.
Southern California has the greatest density of dolphins per square mile than anywhere on earth. This includes nearly 450,000 Common Dolphins like the animals in this video. Dana Point is one of the best places in the world to see one of these large mega pods that can number in herds of up to 10,000.
Capt. Dave’s whale watching passengers were able to experience the beautiful dolphins porpoising through the water at high speeds from both above and below the water with the boat’s unique Eye-to-Eye Underwater Viewing Pods, which allowed them to feel what's it like to swim with wild dolphins without having to get wet.
