Sean Barrett is the narrator in this episode of one of television's longest-running and most successful nature documentary series. This film is a fascinating study of rabbits in the English countryside. Rabbits have a mixed reputation in Britain. This film looks at the trials facing one generation of rabbits following the dominant buck named 'Blackscar' using specialist photography as we follow him into his underground warren. Along the way he will encounter many hazards to survival; not only from predators like buzzards, stoats and foxes but from the farmers and ferreters who seek to hunt them down, and diseases like myxomatosis which almost wiped out the entire rabbit population in Britain in the plague of 1954.
This film was first broadcast: 12 Nov 1976
