Experience a quiet winter transition in Otaru, where the snow begins to fall and melt as the seasons shift.
This walk follows the old path from Akaiwa to Saiwai, a peaceful route with soft snow underfoot.
Along the way stands a mysterious tree—left untouched in the middle of the road.
This sacred tree has an old legend:
“Those who tried to cut it felt their hands suddenly numb, or suffered unexpected injuries.
Because of this, the sacred tree was never removed, and the road was eventually constructed around it.”
