Hello My Beautiful People! Welcome back to the garden! Tonight I wanted to try an experiment I have been thinking about for a while. I start off by using some refreshing some leftover colors and thinning them out for a BlowOut. I used my Makita Mini Leafblower to blow out the paint on a gorgeous Greenish Blue base coat and when that was dry my experiment began. Lets get started!
I'm using an 18x24 inch gallery wrapped canvas from Artists Loft.

I am using Goldens Glass Bead Gel for my experiment. I really love working with this stuff! It is their gel gloss, which dries very shiny and clear, and tiny glass beads. When its dry, the beads refract the light and it shimmers and shines in a really stunning way. I have used it many times with my stencils and wanted to try doing a whole background with it. I think the soft flowing Blow Out on top of the shimmering super sparkly background creates a very interesting and beautiful juxtaposition.
While there are parts of this piece that I really like, overall it is not my favorite piece.
One other thing that I experimented with was the small finger wrecks that I added, giving the suggestion of petals in the Blow Out. I also applied the glass bead gel to these wrecks, and they are my favorite parts.
I think the thing that I'm not crazy about is the composition of the Blow Out. Perhaps on a bigger canvas the design would have worked better, but on this size I feel that more negative space and a better design would have improved it tremendously.
My initial plan was to use a palette knife to apply the glass bead gel, but after talking with my dear friend Kelly of @feralart22 (Kelly's Feral Adventures), she advised me to apply the gel near the perimeter and then push a small amount at the edge to get a clean line. It worked very well (Thanks Kelly!) and then when spreading the gel out with the brush I really liked the striations created by the brush strokes. So I changed my plan and used the paint brush instead of the palette knife. I think there are a lot of different ways you could use this effectively, a simple wave pattern, for example, would look really cool.
I hope that you enjoyed this video! While I do love to experiment, sometimes they dont come out how you want. That being said, I did learn a lot about creating a sparkling background space using the Glass Bead Gel. Looking at the dried piece, I prefer the parts where I did not layer it on very thick. Even once its dry, the thicker parts appear a little whitish, while the thinner application just looks sparkly. Because It dries clear, you can still see the beautiful greenish blue base color. You can absolutely add pigments or paint to the glass bead gel if you wanted to. This Little Piggy pigments are what I usually add to it when using it for stencils. Using a liquid paint would thin the gel out, which is not ideal.
