Here's what we've learned about the rental process so far. Renters may need to supply the following:
1 months rent
1 months deposit
Have a Fiador (this is a local co-signer that can vouch for you and cover your expenses if need be). If you do not have a fiador you will be asked to pay an additional deposit - ranging anywhere from 2 - 6 months rent
Provide personal AND business references *preferably from the Mexican state you're in
Agree to Justicia Alternativa. The direct translation is 'Alternative Justice'. Apparently, it's easy to become a squatter in Mexico and even harder to evict one. The eviction process can take 1-2 years. Signing a Justicia Alternativa is like signing your own eviction notice before you leave. This document is a way to avoid going to court and protects both parties in settling disputes. Typically costs $3,000mxn
