#82 Two Ways to do an Open Cup Acrylic Paint Pour, Great For Beginners!

I have a commission that I need to do, but I always color test first to see how the paints are going to react. I did two different versions of an open cup (thank you Sheldon for suggesting the second one I did!). I tried something different with the base coat on the first pour by using Amsterdam PM and Artists Loft White. I had previously done a piece with Amsterdam PM and ended up getting pearls, but I also used all Amsterdam paints in the piece. I wanted to see if I would get those same pearls - unfortunately, no go. Will have to keep playing Mad Scientist on this phenomenon. I’m about ready to call Amsterdam and ask them what exactly this medium is best used for. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For the second pour, I mixed up a new batch of base coat using Artists Loft White and the PM Molly uses in her mega swipes, except I tweaked it a bit to 60% Floetrol and 40% Creative Inspirations Polymer Gloss Medium and Varnish. I really like how easily this mixture spreads and tilts.

FIRST POUR:
Base coat:
•1p Artists Loft Soft Body - white
•4p Amsterdam pouring medium
•Water to consistency

COLORS IN BOTH POURS:
•Creative Inspirations Payne’s Grey
•Creative Inspirations Ultramarine Blue
•DecoArt Deep Sapphire
•DecoArt Silver
•DecoArt Silver with a dash of Pewter
•DecoArt Bronze

All colors were mixed with 4p mix pouring medium and water to consistency.

SECOND POUR:
Base Coat:
•1p Artists Loft Soft Body - white
•4p PM (60% Floetrol and 40% Creative Inspirations Polymer Gloss Medium and Varnish combined)
•Water to consistency

**I got into acrylic pouring after playing around with epoxy resin and wanting to do some art with it. After realizing the amount of time it took to prep and clean up, it wasn’t quite as appealing to me anymore. That’s when I stumbled onto some YouTube videos about acrylic pouring and I WAS HOOKED. This was in 2020, and with COVID running rampant, it was the perfect thing to keep me occupied and staying home, safe and sound. This art form is extremely cathartic and empowering at the same time.
