This is the first of a multi part series of videos showing how to disassemble, service, and reassemble a Gravely 8 speed riding tractor transmission. To facilitate the creation of this video series it was best for me to do this work with the transmission removed from the tractor and mounted on my makeshift stand. It is quite possible to service much of the transmission without removing it from the tractor frame. Service shops will strive to do so to save the customer time (aka: $) when it makes sense. You may even be able to do your service without removing the engine from the transmission. However, if you intend to remove the internal PTO shaft assy from the transmission, you will have no choice but to separate the engine from the transmission. Whether you remove the transmission from the tractor or not is up to you.
