MedLife Annual Conference Medical Humanities Panel

MedLife Conference, one of the most important scientific events in CEE, brings together annually dozens of high-caliber speakers from Europe, Asia or United States and thousands of doctors from different specialties. The event follows two main directions: the scientific one - through the multidisciplinary approach and the transmission of know-how and the practical one - through specific workshops for each medical specialty.

This year's edition, held online between November 16-20, addressed a topical issue – “Medicine and anthropology in a pandemic context. Adaptative strategies”. For 5 days, 65 speakers from Romania, Hungary, France, Italy, UK, the Netherlands and Canada debated based on the situations and experiences encountered since the onset of the health crisis. The structure of this year's event included 5 plenary sessions and 13 round tables with different specialties: internal medicine, general medicine, obstetrics, oncology, medical imaging, laboratory medicine, anesthesia and intensive care, cardiology, surgery and the multidisciplinary approach of the COVID-19 patient.

One of the most appreciated plenary session was the “Medical Humanities” panel, focused on the endings of the coronavirus pandemic, the lessons learned from historical epidemics and their value in shaping intervention strategies in the current pandemic and its aftermath. The discussion was attended by internationally renowned speakers: Dr. Tamara Giles-Vernick (Institut Pasteur, France), Dr. Vincenzo di Nicola (Université de Montréal), Dr. Dora Vargha (University of Exeter, UK), Dr. Stuart Blume (University of Amsterdam) and Dr. Valentin-Veron Toma (Institute of Anthropology “Francisc I. Rainer”, Romanian Academy).
