Judy Smith was born in 1946 in Hyannis, Massachusetts. She had an ordinary childhood for the most part and got married right after high school. But shortly after her marriage, Judy's husband decided to flee to Sweden, in an attempt to avoid the draft for the war. She went after her new husband to find him and convince him to come back with her, but her efforts were in vain. Judy returned to the U.S. empty-handed. Distraught and helpless, she filed for divorce.
