Thirty years ago, Canadian voters rejected the Charlottetown Accord, a package of constitutional amendments designed to address the national unity crisis that persisted after patriation. To mark the thirtieth anniversary of this historic vote, this session will explore the extent to which the Accord’s failure continues to reverberate today, with Alberta, Quebec, and others now exploring new ways — from “Sovereignty Acts” to unilateral constitutional changes — of expressing their dissatisfaction with the constitutional status quo.
