Workers’ Party (WP) chief and Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh was found guilty on Monday (Feb 17) of two charges of lying to parliament. The 48-year-old was given the maximum fine of $7,000 for each charge. His lawyers have filed an appeal against his conviction and sentence.
In delivering his verdict, Judge Luke Tan said Singh had wilfully given two false answers to a Committee of Privileges during its inquiry into former WP MP Raeesah Khan's case on Dec 10 and Dec 15, 2021.
Judge Tan said that Singh never wanted Ms Raeesah Khan to clarify the truth about her false claim in parliament about accompanying a sexual assault victim to the police station. More details here: https://cna.asia/4gIZtNe
