United States President Donald Trump will speak to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday (May 19) on "stopping the bloodbath" and ending the war in Ukraine. The announcement comes after representatives from Ukraine and Russia on Friday held their first direct face-to-face talks in over three years in Istanbul. Melinda Haring, senior fellow at international affairs think tank Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center, shares with CNA's Asia First her thoughts on whether the Trump-Putin phone call could lead to a breakthrough in peace negotiations.
