The Leccese coffee is often called, outside the town of Lecce, a Caffe Salentino. A caffe Soffiato is a type of Leccese coffee also made with ice, almond milk and espresso. A burst of air premixes the drink and adds a fluffy layer of almond flavored bubbles.

Almonds are also the main ingredient of many of Lecce province’s local desserts, like the Salento Almond Cake at Caffe Piccadilly in Santa Maria al Bagno. Almonds are the star of many Puglian cookies as well. In Otranto, in the far south of the Lecce province, a former biochemist whips up modern twists on traditional Puglian recipes at Pasticceria Merola, a true Otranto hidden gem.
