https://www.footankle.com/heel-pain-c... When plantar fasciitis becomes chronic most studies now show that the most important treatments are those that help stimulate healing of the plantar fascia. In fact, although often called plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the plantar fascia), chronic heel pain is usually caused by plantar fasciosis which is better described as a degeneration of the fascia. When fasciosis is present healing has usually stopped and treatment should be focused on restarting the healing process in order to help the plantar fascia heal.

There are several techniques that can be used to stimulate healing of the fascia. Two of the most common and effective include shockwave therapy and dry needling.

Both shockwave therapy and dry needling have advantages and disadvantages in the treatment of plantar fasciitis and in this video Dr. Larry Huppin, a Seattle podiatrist, will discuss both of these treatments to help you determine the best treatment for your heel pain.
