This rare Saturday southbound move happened because LSRC 4303 and 303 stalled on the grade out of Alpena the previous day and LSRC 304 and 4304 had to come up light and rescue the stalled train. Just as the final part of the journey for the crew was coming up in Tawas, the train derailed near the north end switch at Palumbo Siding. Bad luck for LSRC this week.
