DANIEL BOONE ON THE BIG SANDY (PART 1)

Daniel Boone is perhaps the most famous of our country’s early pioneers and was a key figure in the settlement of Kentucky—particularly the bluegrass region. But his first steps into Kentucky were in Pike County near the Breaks. He and his two companions travelled down the Russell Fork to the Levisa and further downstream until they were forced to spend the winter near present-day David. The path they took would have had them passing by the locations that would one day become Elkhorn City, Millard, Pikeville, Harold, Allen, Prestonsburg, and more.
