Beija-Flor (hummingbird) seems a misnomer because the song feels more like a sultry samba than a hyperactive bird flitting about. A bit of research says there is a samba school in Rio that has Beija-Flor as its symbol so maybe that's the connection. The song was written by Nelson Cavaquinho, Noel Silva and Augusta Tomas Jr. This arrangement is by Byron Fogo.
I recall during my early days of guitar playing that most other players in my age group were obsessed with velocity. There was a virtuoso piece called El Colibri (the hummingbird) by Julio Sagreras that if played fast enough sounded like a caffeinated hummingbird on amphetamines. I never did get it to the tempo marking that approached my self-imposed speed goal.
