'G' Class No.233 "Leschenault Lady" in Steam

Welcome to the Transwa Series, this series of videos will cover regional transport in Western Australia, the first in the series takes a look at the iconic WAGR 'G' Class locomotive.

G233 is now the longest continuous service locomotive, G233 is back in steam and what a magnificent sight the newly restored Leschenault Lady is. the locomotive first came back into service in August 2021 at the Boyanup Rail and Heritage Centre's 150 years of railways in Western Australia celebrations.

This video was taken during her second public appearance in late October 2021. Over a 4 hour period G233 "Leschenault Lady" performed shunting operations to pickup a second heritage carriage, than at the end of the day reversed all the moves, pushing and pulling rolling stock into various sidings so as to retire to the safety of the engine shed.

I took the opportunity to include some of the other activities on show, for example the 3 static display heritage coaches, steam engines and the blacksmiths shop, and took a walk to Boyanup Station, the water tower, goods ramp, and island platform all still evident, although the tree in the centre of the platform is starting to take over! The lines outside of the Heritage Centre are under private control. Whats left of the Flinder's Bay Branch beyond Boyanup, about 20 kms would be ideal for a revival of the old "Vintage Train" that for many years ran out of Bunbury Station (the original).

Although the track is still in situ it would need a considerable amount of money to get it up to modern running and safety standards.
