Here is a lovely version of the 1926-27 minor Chicago hit “Shanghai Honeymoon.” While the Al Turk, Kansas City Tin Roof Stompers, Lawrence Welk, and Duke Yellman renditions are all wonderful in their own ways, the Wisconsin Roof Orchestra version is especially wonderful thanks to its driving rhythm section. Banjoist Ralph West and tubist Chet Harding are particularly excellent on this recording. The reeds are also standout, and the arrangement itself is really wonderful.
