Why Did Ric Ocasek Cut Paulina Out of the Will?

Ric Ocasek, frontman for The Cars, passed away on September 15, 2019. Upon choosing his burial clothes, his wife Paulina got some surprising news. Why did Ric cut his wife Paulina out of the will? In his words: “‘I will not provide for my wife because she abandoned me.” However, because Ric and his wife Paulina were still married at the time of his death, that meant she was entitled to what’s called the Elective Share, in the state of New York.

At the age of 40, Ric Ocasek met Paulina Porizkova when she was only 19 and they married 5 years later in 1989. In 2017, after 28 years of marriage, they announced their separation but the divorce was never finalized. Ric passed away while recovering from surgery to treat stage zero lung cancer, two years later. The medical examiner said he had died as a result of cardiovascular disease. Paulina and Ric were still living together at the time of his death, and she was caring for him while he recovered from surgery. She was the one that found him when he passed.
