The SS Kakapo ran aground on Noordhoek Beach on 25th May 1900 with 20 souls on board, all of whom survived.
Foul weather was blamed, but a later enquiry ruled human error, the wreck has been a landmark for more than 100 years and is quite the tourist attraction.
