Today, December 14th 2025, Ruth Goldsmith turns 100.
We sat down with Ruth two weeks ago, just ahead of this milestone, to capture her life story — and what a century it’s been. Born in the Bronx to Hungarian Jewish immigrants, Ruth grew up in the Bronx, lost both parents young, fell in love as a teenager, and spent years writing letters through World War II while her future husband survived D-Day.
She went on to raise a family, build a 26-year career at Bloomingdale’s, and live with a sharp independence, clarity, and honesty that still defines her at 100.
This conversation spans family, grief, love, the war, mental health before it had a name, sense of humor, and the quiet resilience it takes to live a full life across a century of change.
We’re honored to share Ruth’s story on her 100th birthday.
