Video series showing examples of classical forms taught in the Nam Pai Chuan School.
Demonstrated in this clip are the weapon form “Weeping Willow Twin Sabres”, and the animal form “Southern Eagle Claw”.
These are old traditional forms, not modern Wushu taolu. Formwork was originally designed to train martial artists in a specific fighting method, conditioning the body through movement, developing practical skills or techniques that can then be applied in combat. Each individual will express the art differently based on their experience and interpretation.
Nam Pai Chuan forms are derived from the teachings of Seh Koh San, a Shaolin monk who lived from 1886 to 1960 and is widely recognised as being the father of traditional Shaolin Arts in South East Asia. He studied with many teachers, but his style became known as “Fut Gar Kuen” or “Hood Khar Pai”, meaning Buddhist Family Fist.
