From shot-for-shot remakes to reimagining that abandon what made the originals special, studios are using our memories to sell us recycled content — and it’s wearing thin.

Using examples from Star Wars, Resident Evil, The Lion King, and more, I explain why pure nostalgia doesn’t sell anymore, why “new and improved” versions often fail to capture the magic, and why we desperately need more original stories — not just reboots.
