How Mossad Eliminated a PLO Bomb Maker With Poisoned Cologne in Vienna
Nabil Qassem, who designed seventeen car bombs used across Europe, lived under diplomatic protection in Vienna throughout the 1980s. Mossad couldn't physically access him, so in 1985 they intercepted a cologne shipment from his preferred French boutique. They replaced the original fragrance with an identical-smelling liquid containing DMSO-dissolved nicotine concentrate that absorbed through skin. Qassem applied it daily for two weeks, accumulating a fatal dose. He died of apparent heart failure in his Vienna apartment, the cologne bottle sitting prominently on his dresser.
