Nicole Masters, director of Integrity Soils speaks at E Tipu 2021: The Boma NZ Agri Summit on addressing soil health by first asking the questions around it:
"When we change how we look at things, the things that we look at change... this really is the regenerative approach.
"78% of NZ dairy farms are significantly compacted. We want to create soils that function like sponges. The place to start is curiosity.”
"The challenge of our generation is what is it we see?.. How do we build ecosystems that function? How do we build soils that can hold on to water, can hold on to nutrients, and don't rely on someone pouring stuff on?”
Nicole Masters is founder and director of Integrity Soils, a company specialising in regenerative agriculture. She’s also an independent agroecologist, systems thinker, educator and published author. Nicole has travelled across New Zealand, Australia and North America to help farmers and producers use regenerative agriculture practices to improve nutrient density and decrease their environmental impact while increasing profit margins.
Her book, “For the Love of Soil,” helps people learn the tools and principles producers are using to regenerate their soils and provides a step-by-step triage of actions anyone can take to regenerate their land.
Nicole has a formal background in ecology, soil science and organisational learning. She has provided agricultural consulting and extension services for nearly 20 years and is recognised as a knowledgeable and dynamic speaker on the topic of soil health.
Her team of soil coaches at Integrity Soils work alongside producers in the U.S., Canada and across Australasia.
