A New Chapter Begins on Good Counsel Hill

Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership (SWMHP) has officially closed on the historic Good Counsel campus, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this iconic hilltop. For more than a century, the site—known as “the Hill”—was stewarded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, shaping generations through education, service, and community. SWMHP is honored to continue that legacy, ensuring the campus remains a place for housing, gathering, and community connection for years to come.

In the year ahead, planning and construction will continue across the campus, with the goal of opening the chapel and event spaces for public use by summer 2026. These spaces will host community events, performances, celebrations, reflection, and mission-aligned programming, with the historic chapel organ preserved as a treasured feature. Plans also include future housing opportunities, including Good Counsel Meadows, eight permanently affordable homes through the Partnership Community Land Trust, and collaborative partnerships with nonprofit and senior care organizations.

As SWMHP moves into this next phase, CEO Chad Adams reflects on the milestone: “We are honored to build upon the values of the School Sisters of Notre Dame by creating a campus that continues to serve the community through housing, gathering spaces, and partnerships rooted in dignity and belonging.” This project is made possible thanks to the generosity and collaboration of funders, partners, and the community, and SWMHP invites everyone to stay connected as plans take shape and the Hill comes alive in new ways.
