I'm Metallica fan sice the Black Album was released. I bought the double vinil.
After that I got the first albuns, Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets and .. And Justice for All in K7, and listened them all until the end of the world.
Then, I've turned the biggest fan ever.
When Metallica released LOAD in 1996, my expections were too high, and I've got desapointed in the first auditions, I must confess.
Some songs I liked, maybe influencied by the videoclips in MTV, as King Nothing, Until It Sleeps, Hero of the Day.
Mama Said! What a change! Now Metallica is Country, I thinked.
I had the same feelings when RELOAD was released one year later (1997).
I loved Fuel in the first audition.
I liked The Memory Remains (live version is better) and The Unforgiven II videoclips too.
As time went by and I listened to these albums more, I started to like them more and more , but the expectation of hearing the old Metallica again always made me put these albums in the background.
St. Anger is the Metallica's strangest album, yet I bought it and tried to listen to it, several times. And I failed. I couldn't hear much. However, some songs work really well live, with a much better drum sound.
Then came Death Magnetic, which I liked, but the exaggerated post-production, saturated audio, took away my desire to listen to it many times. So I looked up live versions on YouTube. These are songs that sound great at live shows.
Not to forget to mention, Metallica released the albums Garage Inc., S&M and Lulu (I couldn't like it. One day I'll try again).
I watched the S&M DVD a lot.
The last album was Hardwired... to Self-Destruct (2016), and we already know that Metallica will release 72 Seasons in 2023 (I have no expectations, no hype).
So! I started playing guitar because of Metallica. I tried to learn as many riffs and solos as possible.
Over the years, and understanding a little more about composition, today I see the Load and Reload albums in a different way.
There's a lot of interesting stuff, heavy riffs, fun to play. Simple and efficient.
I listen to the 5 classic Metallica albums much more than the others, they are incomparable. But doesn't mean that Load and Reload are worse. They are different.
I was an old Metallica fan, and at begning I was very critical of Load and Reload.
Today, I'm still a big fan of Metallica, but with another eyes and ears, and musical maturity, perhaps.
